At VPW 153 Homecoming Volume 2, Johnny “Pretty Boy” Collins put Dezmond Cole on notice by announcing that he would be focusing on the New York State Championship at VPW 155 The Showdown in St James.
Johnny Collins is one of the best in Victory Pro Wrestling today. He has made himself one of the pillars in the company. While he recently lost the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship to Jack Tomlinson at Under Pressure in June of this year, Collins would have a reign of terror beating anyone who tried to take the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship from him, with some help of course from the Even Stevens.
“Da Big Boofa” Dezmond Cole becamse VPW New York State Champion at VPW 153: Blood Sweat & 16 Years. Since then, Cole would go on to retain his title against Filipinot Grigio, Tony Vincita, and most notably, Dominck Denaro. Cole has proven to the VPW faithful that he is a worthy champion. Since coming back from injury this year, he continues to impress with every performance in the ring, and September should be no different.
So what sparked Collins focusing on Cole? In July, Collins teamed up with Steve Somerset and honorary “Pretty Likeable” member Ryan Galeone to take on the team of Bam Sullivan, Kenny Garcia, and Mouse. Pretty Likeable would end up picking up the victory in a very physical match. After the match, Collins made his intentions known.
Collins looks to become only the sixth wrestler behind Mister Tibbs, Eric James, VSK, Jay Delta, and Ricky Reyes to become a Victory Pro Wrestling Triple Crown Winner. Collins called out Dezmond Cole and told him he wanted to “teach him how to be a champion.”
Dezmond Cole is an incredibly talented competitor and could beat anyone put in front of him, but there is a difference with Johnny Collins. Not only will Cole have to contend with Johnny Collins, but he will also have to keep eyes on in the back of his head with “Pretty Likeable” not far behind.
Collins on the other hand seemingly already has an advantage in this match. Not only is he a former Victory Pro Wrestling Champion, but he also is seeking to be a part of history. Collins also has a couple of cards up his sleeves. Those cards wear sweater vest and have helped Collins win time, and time, again.
Some might say that Johnny Collins reign as Victory Pro Wrestling Champion wouldn’t have been as long as it was had it not been for the Even Stevens. One thing we know for sure is that in September at “The Showdown in St. James,” something will have to give. Will we see Dezmond Cole retain his VPW New York State Championship, or will we see Johnny Collins do whatever it takes to become the new VPW New York State Champion and cement his name in the Victory Pro Wrestling history books?
