The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has informed health officials in all 50 states to be prepared to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine by late October or early November. The CDC told states they need to prioritize who gets the vaccine when it is first approved because it will be in short supply as production ramps up. The agency said that healthcare professionals, essential workers, and staff and residents at long-term care facilities should be the first groups to get vaccinated.
The CDC also asked the states to waive any regulatory requirements that could impede the distribution of the vaccine.
“CDC urgently requests your assistance in expediting applications for these distribution facilities from becoming fully operational by Nov. 1, 2020,” the agency wrote.
New York State’s reopening plan for Phase Four currently allows for professional sports with no spectators. Does this mean that wrestling on Long Island could return by the end of 2020?
“I hear from our fans on a daily basis that they miss Victory Pro Wrestling and cannot wait to come back,” said ring announcer John E Radioo. “With the State of New York finally letting gyms open, the news of vaccines being available in a couple of months could change the game for everyone.”
While the CDC asked states to be ready by the end of October, that does not mean a vaccine will be available by then. There are several vaccination candidates in the final stages of clinical trials. If the vaccines are proven safe and effective, they could be approved before the end of the year, though it will take time to produce enough doses to inoculate everybody.
“Right now I will say we’re preparing earnestly for what I anticipate will be reality … that there’ll be one or more vaccines available for us in November, December — and we have to figure out how to make sure they’re distributed in a fair and equitable way across the country,” said CDC Director Robert Redfield.
