Victory Pro Wrestling’s King of New York started off with VPW Commissioner Kevin Fulton making a few announcements.
The first announcement was that VPW Women’s Champion Masha Slamovich was unable to make her appearance, so he decided to strip her of the championship. Two matches later that night would determine who would be the next champion at February’s Before the Storm.
The second announcement came with a gift. Fulton brought out VPW Champion Kevin “Mister” Tibbs and presented him with a newly commissioned VPW Championship title, saying that while they haven’t seen eye to eye, Fulton feels that Tibbs truly deserved the new belt. In fact, he also felt that Tibbs could take the night off, saying that until someone shows they truly deserve the right to be in the ring with the VPW Champion, Tibbs doesn’t have to defend the championship.
The third announcement came with a little help of VPW New York State Champion Steve Gibki, who came to the ring to step up to the challenge, wanting to face Tibbs. The VPW Champion then said he was following Gibki’s social media, noting that he was telling the locker room to step up. Tibbs said that HE is the champion in VPW, and that he would take his belt, his new belt, and even Gibki’s belt.
That’s when Commissioner Fulton made his third announcement – that Gibki and Tibbs would in fact face each other… in a non-title match later in the night.
