Dante Drago’s rise to the New York State championship came with some bumps in the road.
After debuting with Victory Pro Wrestling, Dante Drago teamed with Kaide Lothbrok in the Wolves of Odin. Together they started to give notice to the rest of VPW, but after Kaide was suspended, Dante was on his own.
When Dante Drago returned, he introduced the VPW Faithful to Delta House. Jey and Nick were Dante’s rushes, were loyal to Dante and giving the Frat Star a new sense of value. Scoring victory after victory, Dante’s stock continued to rise.
At VPW’s 2023 Gold Rush Rumble, with the help of Nick Robles, Dante Drago overcame the odds and became the second person in Victory Pro Wrestling history to start at number 1 and go coast to coast to win the Gold Rush Rumble.
A month later at VPW’s Sanctified, Dante Drago did the unprecedented. Instead of announcing formally who he was challenging, Dante called in his Gold Rush Challenge on the spot to become New York State champion.
Going back to the Gold Rush Rumble, a young talent made an impressive debut. The Igniting Dynamite JJ Doze impressed the fans and VPW Management, giving him an opportunity to team with Marvelous and challenge for the VPW Tag Team Championships. After the match, Marvelous walked out on JJ.
The failed opportunity did not go unnoticed as again, JJ Doze impressed both the fans and management. At VPW Hallowed Ground, JJ was included, along with El Magnifico and Marvelous, in a Top Contenders match for an opportunity at the New York State Championship.
JJ Doze was able to outsmart Marvelous, the wily veteran from the Monster Factory, who was in control for most of the match. However, once the match was over, JJ celebrated with fans and was brutally attacked by a beast of a man, who Marvelous introduced on social media as the God of Dad Bod.
Despite the assault, JJ Doze still earned the right to challenge Dante Drago at VPW Insanity. Another opportunity to impress the fans and management is there for the Igniting Dynamite, but will this be the one that elevates him higher, or will Dante show JJ why he is the face of the New York State Championship?
