Victory Pro Wrestling returns to Bay Shore on Saturday, February 15, with one of its most storied traditions—the King of New York Tournament—but this year, the stakes are even higher. For the first time ever, the tournament will crown the first-ever KINGS of New York in a special tag team tournament format!
A Legacy of Champions
Since its inception in 2011, the King of New York Tournament has been a proving ground for some of VPW’s greatest competitors. Eric James, then known as EJ Risk, became the first King by defeating Xander Page, El Destructico, The Zombie, Razzle Dazzle, K-Funk Kevin Tibbs, Jay Delta, Josef Von Schmidt, James Pash, Jason Static, Mike Magnum, and Joe So Delicious to claim victory.
Eric James would go on to win again in 2012, joining a prestigious list of past winners that includes Jay Delta, Kevin Tibbs, Kai Katana, Dorian Graves, Stockade, Phil Cardigan, and Dezmond Cole. Jay Delta currently holds the record with three King of New York victories.
In 2018, the tournament expanded with the introduction of the Queen of New York, where Sam Leterna became the first to wear the crown. The following year, Jayel Cotto captured the title.
A New Era Begins
With VPW continuing to evolve, VPW Owner John E. Radioo made the groundbreaking announcement that this year’s tournament will focus on tag teams for the first time in VPW history.
“We’ve celebrated the men, and we’ve celebrated the women,” said Radioo. “While we’ve had a tournament to crown the first Tag Team Champions in VPW, we haven’t had anything of that level since. It’s time to change that.”
Tournament Format & Stakes
- Eight tag teams will compete in a “Beat the Clock” challenge during the opening rounds.
- The two fastest winning teams will advance to the main event, where they will battle to become the first-ever KINGS of New York.
- The winning team earns the right to challenge for the VPW Tag Team Championship at April’s Blood, Sweat, and 19 Years anniversary event.
This landmark event will redefine Victory Pro Wrestling’s tag team division and carve out a new legacy for future generations. Who will rise above the competition and claim the KINGS of New York crown?
