The King of New York tournament has crowned not just wrestling royalty but future champions. With the exception of 2017 King Dorian Graves, every King of New York has become Victory Pro Wrestling champion.
While Graves did hold gold in the VPW Tag Team division, Eric James, Jay Delta, and Mister Tibbs have all held the Victory Pro Wrestling championship, the VPW Tag Team championship, and the New York State championship. Kyler Khan held the Victory Pro Wrestling championship as Kai Katana, as well as the New York State championship.
Needless to say, becoming King of New York has become a launching pad for the careers of Victory Pro Wrestling’s top stars.
With that said, let’s take a look at this year’s King of New York participants.
Karlo Vice
Your Rock God debuted at Disorderly Conduct and impressed Victory Pro Wrestling management so much they decided to give him a chance to step in the ring for an opportunity at greatness.
His arrogance may cost him an opportunity to advance into the second round.
The Notorious Dezmond Cole
He made his debut in last year’s King of New York show, and a year later is in the tournament. His desire to be the best and his hunger is intense.
He still lacks the experience as some of the other participants, but we wouldn’t see surprised to see Cole advance into the semi finals.
Jay Delta
Delta is a three time King of New York, as well as one of VPW’s most decorated champions. Delta enters this tournament as the first of three members of the Influence, as well as the 2019 King of New York.
Delta has the experience to overcome and dominate this tournament as he has before. Odds on favorite to be a four-time King.
Lance Anderson
The former Razzle Dazzle enters this tournament with the most wrestling time in a VPW ring, but his laid back attitude has given him a new life.
Does this convert into being the new King? Probably not, but don’t be surprised if he pulls up an upset. Granted, he’ll be facing Mister Tibbs in the first round so…
Stockade
The Deathmatch Asgardian. Stockade introduced VPW to the Doorway to Hell match and put both Alvin Alvarez and the Influence through doors. Outside of VPW, Stockade is known as a deathmatch champion in several organizations.
His experience in these grueling tournaments make him an odds on favorite. Can you say King Stockade?
“The Throwback” Eric James
Eric James is the first ever King of New York, and the first ever to be King on more than one occasion. James is also the second of three members of Influence listed in this tournament.
One of the most decorated champions in VPW history looks to be King a third time, and the odds are in his favor both with his experience and with his Influence favors.
“The Adrenaline Rush” Ryan Galeone
Not much is known about Galeone’s personality, but his in ring performance is incredible. Fans have bared witness to his power and his speed, but have been dazzled by the 6’5″ Galeone flying through the air defying the laws of gravity.
It’s a safe bet to see Galeone advance to the semi finals, but can he become King?
Mister Tibbs
Mister Tibbs is the only man to be King of New York, New York State Champion, and Victory Pro Wrestling champion at the same time. One can say his destiny is to be king again, to rebuild his fortune.
The third member of the Influence and it’s leader, Tibbs may just do that. However, he suffered a crushing loss to Coach Mammone to lose the Victory Pro Wrestling championship at Disorderly Conduct. Will he be focused on winning?
Who will advance to the semi finals of the King of New York?
