Victory Pro Wrestling returned to the Sports Arena in St. James, NY for a massive show, “The Showdown in St. James” which featured Dirty Dango. The show was headlined by a triple threat match where Jack Tomlinson would defend his VPW Championship against Dan Barry, and Mike Anthony.
“HOLIER THAN THOU” MATCH: ADAM CAIN vs. BROTHER GREATNESS
The rules for the Holier Than Thou match
- Each competitor has 3 rope breaks. After they exhaust their breaks, a pinfall or submission cannot be broken by the ropes
- No closed fists. The first closed fist usage will result in a warning, the second a disqualification
- Absolutely no outside interference, and absolutely no use of foreign objects during the match
The Infamous Adam Cain made his way out to the ring first, accompanied by his manager Silk E. Smooth. Brother Greatness was out next to a big ovation. Adam Cain took his sweet time getting into the ring for the faceoff with Brother Greatness, but eventually he did.
In the early going of this match, Brother Greatness extended his hand to shake Cain’s. However, Cain declined his offer and flipped him the bird. The match begins with chain wrestling between the two men. Brother Greatness was able to lock Adam Cain in a submission hold in the very early part of this match, which forced Cain to use one of his three rope breaks.
Shortly after, Cain was able to force Brother Greatness to use one of his rope breaks as well. Cain used his size to bring down Brother Greatness, However, Brother Greatness was able to use his speed to take the fight right back to Cain. Brother Greatness was able to lock in a submission hold which forced Cain to use another one of his rope breaks.
Cain was visibly upset so he close-handed punched Brother Greatness. This got Cain one warning from the official. Cain was able to take control of the match and get Brother Greatness to use all of his rope breaks which he was allowed to for this match.
Brother Greatness however would use his speed to fight back into this match. Brother Greatness made his way to the top rope and called for a big move. He was able to hit Adam Cain, but he also inadvertently hit the ref as well. This led to Cain to hit Brother Greatness with a low blow.
Cain’s manager, Silk E. Smooth, made his way into the ring and helped Cain beat up on Brother Greatness. Smooth went to hit Brother Greatness with the chair, but Brother Greatness was able to move out of the way, so Smooth’s chair shot went into the skull of Adam Cain.
Brother Greatness was able to send Smooth packing to the outside. He then used the cane of Silk E. Smooth on Adam Cain. This gave Brother Greatness the opportunity to pin, and defeat Adam Cain.
WINNER: BROTHER GREATNESS
DANTE DRAGO vs. RYAN GALEONE vs ABSOLUTE ALVIN ALVAREZ
The match starts off with Dante Drago running to the outside and getting his managers to try to attack Ryan Galeone and Alvin Alvarez. This didn’t work in the slightest as Galeone and Alvarez overpowered the “Frat Party.” Galeone hit a slap on Drago’s chest, which was shortly followed up by a smack to Drago’s back from Alvarez. This sends Drago to the outside. Galeone and Alvarez began exchanging blows which ends with Galeone gaining the upper hand.
Alvarez is quickly able to fight back into the match. Drago helps Alvarez momentarily, but Alvarez beats up both men. The match spills to the outside and Alvarez continues to bring the fight to Galeone with some heavy hitting.
When the match gets back into the ring, Alvarez was able to hit a splash onto Drago for only a two count. Galeone re-enters the match in a big way hitting a massive flying flip onto both Drago and Alvarez. However, thanks to help from the “frat party” who takes out Galeone, Drago is able to pin, and defeat Alvin Alvarez.
WINNER: “THE FRAT STAR” DANTE DRAGO
One half of the Even Stevens, Stephen Azure made his way out to the ring. Azure announces that his brother, Steve Somerset couldn’t make it to the show tonight. He says that in order to continue to prove that they are the best tag team in wrestling, he will put himself in a handicap match against two monsters of men.
Two men make their way down to the ring – Eddie The Sweeper and Sebastian – and Azure destroys them both. He hits a massive spinebuster on one of them and follows it up with a double Samoan drop. He stacks up both of his opponents and pins them for the three count.
WINNER: STEPHEN AZURE
VPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS: SCHOOL OF COOL vs CHAMPIONS SHOOK CREW
The match began with some funny antics between Dr. Cool and Bobby Orlando. Dr. Cool would break three of Orlando’s glasses each time he put them on his face. When the match officially began, Orlando would quickly take the fight to Dr. Cool. Orlando tagged in Bryce Donovan fairly early and the two would continue to beat up on Dr. Cool.
Dr. Cool is finally able to tag in Pat Fitzpatrick and Fitzpatrick doesn’t fair much better against the VPW Tag Team Champions. Donovan was even able to beat up on both members of the School of Cool at the same time. Donovan tagged in Orlando and the champs remained firmly in control, until Fitzpatrick was able to assist Dr. Cool from the apron and change the momentum of the match.
From this moment on, this match was run by School of Cool for the time being. Fitzpatrick was able to remain in control of Bobby Orlando for a while by keeping him away from Bryce and in the School of Cool’s corner. Fitzpatrick and Dr. Cool would exchange quick tags to keep each other fresh while continuing to beat up on Bobby Orlando.
Finally, Orlando was able to tag in Bryce Donovan and Bryce came in hot and ready to go. Donovan took out both members of School of Cool. Donovan brought the fight to both School of Cool members and was ready to go. However, School of Cool was able to slow him down with a double team move of their own.
Orlando came back into the match and was on a bit of a hot streak. Unfortunately, a low blow by Dr. Cool followed by a pin fall put a stop to that. Orlando was able to kick out and make the tag into Donovan. The Shook Crew was able to hit a big double team move to defeat the School of Cool and retain their VPW Tag Team Championships.
WINNERS: AND STILL VPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS, SHOOK CREW
FILIPINOT GRIGIO AND FRANCIS KIP STEVENS vs ANTHONY GANGONE AND PERCY RYAN
Filipinot Grigio and Francis Kip Stevens made their way down to the ring first. They were being interviewed by the announcer. Grigio says that despite his and Kips lack of communication problem, things have been going great. Percy Ryan and Anthony Gangone interrupt them and make their way down to the ring accompanied by Silk E. Smooth and Adam Cain.
Ryan and Kip started the match for each other’s respective teams. After some shenanigans, Ryan was able to put Kip in a headlock. However, Kip was able to counter with one of his own. After some more back and forth wrestling, Gangone and Ryan were able to gain control of the match.
Gangone is able to beat up on Grigio to remain in control of the match. Grigio uses some chain wrestling to get the best of Gangone and get back into this match for his team. Grigio tags in Kip and Kip continues where Grigio left off beating down Gangone.
Eventually, Smooth would try to get involved, but this wouldn’t end well for him. Kip and Grigio would bring him into the ring to try to beat him up. Grigio accidentally hit Kip however and this caused Gangone to attack and gain momentum back for his team.
Gangone continues the onslaught of Grigio, stopping him in his tracks every time he tried to muster up some offense. Gangone and Ryan exchanged quick tags to each other while remaining in control of the match. After Gangone accidentally knocks Ryan off the apron, Grigio had his opening, or so he thought.
Grigio made his way over to his corner, to tag Kip. However, as soon as Grigio was about to tag Kip, Kip dropped down and left, leaving his partner high and dry. Grigio did a good job at trying to fight off Gangone and Ryan, but unfortunately it was to no avail. Gangone and Ryan were able to hit a big double team move onto Grigio to pin him and win the match.
WINNERS: ANTHONY GANGONE AND PERCY RYAN
ERIC JAMES vs DIRTY DANGO
Eric James made his way down to the ring first, followed by Dirty Dango. James says that he wants to have a sing off versus a dance off. Dirty Dango starts off the competition by hitting some dance moves in the middle of the ring. James follows him up by singing a song. Dango attacked him from behind and the match got underway.
Eric James was able to fight back on the outside of the ring and was able to get the best of Dango. James continued to take the fight to Dango when the match spilt back inside the ring. WINNER: ERIC JAMES
VPW NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: JOHNNY COLLINS vs CHAMPION DEZMOND COLE
Johnny Collins made his way out to the ring alone, which was very uncharacteristic of the Johnny Collins we all know. He was followed by the VPW New York State Champion, Dezmond Cole. Collins gave the announcer a special introduction to read for him.
The match itself starts out with a collar-elbow tie-up. Cole was able to send Collins across the ring and use his strength to overpower him in the early going of this match. Collins was forced to the outside and had to regroup. After more back and forth wrestling, Collins gains control of the match.
Cole would try to fight back and call for one of his big moves, but Collins countered, slamming Cole into the middle turnbuckle. Collins was able to lock in a triangle choke on Cole, but Cole was able to get out of it. Both men begin to throw strikes at each other.
Cole is able to gain control. Cole calls for his finisher, but Collins counters. Collins then called for his finisher which this time was countered by Cole who hit a spinning kick and a massive powerbomb for a two count. Collins was able to once again counter Cole’s finishing move with a DDT.
Collins calls for one of his own again, but this time Cole was able to leap over him. Cole was finally able to hit his finisher and get the pinfall victory over Collins in what was a very competitive match for the VPW New York State Championship.
WINNER: AND STILL VPW NEW YORK STATE CHAMPION, DEZMOND COLE
VPW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP: MEGAN MASON vs CHAMPION VALENTINA VASQUEZ
This match started off quick. Megan Mason grabbed the VPW Women’s Championship from the referee and hit Valentina Vasquez in the back with it before the match even started. The brawl spilled to the floor and the two women brawled on the outside. Mason was able to gain the upper hand.
Mason and Vasquez make their way back into the ring and the bell finally rings to kick off the match. Vasquez immediately takes the fight to the dangerous challenger. Mason quickly fights back and gets the best of Vasquez. Vasquez would try to fight back, but to no avail.
Mason would continue the onslaught and seemingly had Vasquez right where she wanted her. Mason charged at Vasquez in the corner, but Vasquez was able to dodge Mason and made Mason pay. Vasquez was able to hit her finishing move and pin Mason for the three count.
WINNER: AND STILL VPW WOMEN’S CHAMPION, VALENTINA VASQUEZ
After the match, someone attacked Vasquez from behind. Vasquez was able to walk off under her own power, but it looks like we have a new challenger for the Victory Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship.
VPW CHAMPIONSHIP: MIKE ANTHONY vs DAN BARRY vs CHAMPION JACK TOMLINSON
The match starts off with Mike Anthony going to the outside. Dan Barry and Jack Tomlinson locked up in the middle of the ring and began to wrestle. Anthony would try to subtly get involved but backed away every time they noticed. Barry has enough and kicks Anthony and gets him back into the ring. Tomlinson and Barry worked together briefly to beat up on Anthony.
Anthony tried to roll to the outside to get away from Barry, but Barry stopped him. After some more double team moves, Barry and Tomlinson begin to fight again. Tomlinson is able to hit a standing dropkick on Barry, sending him to the outside.
Tomlinson makes his way up to the top turnbuckle and hits a moonsault onto Anthony and Barry who are out on the floor. Tomlinson makes his way up to the top for another high risk move, but this time Anthony counters and beats him up. Anthony does a good job at taking the offense to the VPW Champion.
All three men begin unloading strikes on each other. Barry takes out both Anthony and Tomlinson. Tomlinson is able to send Barry to the outside and Anthony and Tomlinson continue to brawl. All hell breaks loose at this point. Barry hits a back body drop onto Tomlinson onto the ring apron and sets up Anthony on the guardrail. Barry hits a double stomp to the back of Anthony as he is positioned on the guardrail.
The brawl spills over into the crowd and the crowd is loving it. Anthony and Barry are beating the hell out of each other, and Tomlinson gets to rest up during this time. Tomlinson made his way to the guardrail and jumps on Anthony and Barry from the guardrail and into the VPW faithful.
Tomlinson sends Anthony back into the ring and is able to connect with a subscriber stomp. Barry makes the save just in time to keep the match alive. Anthony goes to hit Tomlinson with the title but the referee stops him. Barry sends Anthony packing, and Tomlinson is able to connect with a stomp onto Barry for the three count.
WINNER: AND STILL VPW CHAMPION, JACK TOMLINSON
After the match, Mike Anthony attacks Jack Tomlinson again. Anthony pulls out a chair from under the ring and sets it up. He drops Tomlinson with a massive DDT onto the chair. Anthony gets on the microphone and says that he is the rightful VPW Champion. He also claims that he will win the Gold Rush Rumble and will see Jack Tomlinson “very, very soon.” Anthony walks away with the VPW Championship in his possession to end the show.
