Victory Pro Wrestling returned to Ronkonkoma for the first time in five years with a benefit show for the AMVETS Post 48, with a few new faces making their debut.
The last time Victory Pro Wrestling was in Ronkonkoma was in 2017, with quite a few new faces performing that day. The most prominent debut being Sam L’Eterna, a rookie with zero matches under her belt training under Johnny Rodz. She eventually became a mainstay in VPW, becoming the inaugural Queen of New York after defeating Karen Q (NXT star Wendy Choo). Sam also became VPW Women’s Champion after defeating Karen Statlander (currently signed to AEW). Now Sam is backstage interviewer, announcer, and commentator for some of the northeast’s top independent wrestling promotions.
So what was in store for the Ronkonkoma fan base that showed up for VPW 156?
The show started off with the current Victory Pro Wrestling champion Jack Tomlinson, as he came to the ring without his championship belt. At VPW 155: The Showdown in St James, he defeated Dan Barry and Mike Anthony, but after the match Mike Anthony attacked the champion and stole the title, claiming it to be his and making himself the rightful champion.
Jack Tomlinson apologized to the fans for allowing that to happen and said that he would do whatever it takes to get the belt back. Calling out Mike Anthony, Tomlinson demanded his championship belt back.
Making his way through the crowd, Mike Anthony came to ringside with a microphone and the Victory Pro Wrestling championship. Going off Jack Tomlinson’s “whatever it takes” quote, Mike offered him the safe return of the championship, but only if Jack could survive the Mike Anthony gauntlet match in the main event, with two opponents of his choosing to face Jack.
“Whatever it takes,” was the response from the current champion, and the main event was settled: Jack Tomlinson in a three-match gauntlet match against Mike Anthony and two competitors of his choosing.
Dante Drago w/ Delta House (Jey Mesias and Nick Robles) def. Dan Barry
- All three members of Delta House, Dante Drago, Jey Mesias, and Nick Robles, celebrated before the match started. Dan Barry reminded all three early on that would be a mistake
- Dan Barry kept in control throughout most of the match, despite Drago fighting back
- The numbers game came into play with distractions from the outside from Delta House taking the attention of the referee, giving Drago a chance to steal the win.
Sebastian Sacaras came to the ring and issued an open challenge.
Foxy Foxxy came out, making her first Long Island appearance in 20 years. Sebastian laughed it off, asking if she was his challenge. “No, you wish,” she said before stepping aside and allowing her client to make HIS return since being suspended… Kaide Lothbrok!
Kaide Lothbrok w/ Foxy Foxxy def. Sebastian Sacaras
- Fans were excited to see Kaide return to VPW, but a couple asked about his suspension. Foxy fired back, “Loophole, baby!”
- Sebastian was outpowered and out matched, but he did try to fight back.
- After a solid four minutes of domination, Kaide connected with a running power slam and lariat combo to finish the match
KJ Mack w/ Silk E Smooth vs Millz Hendrix
- KJ Mack makes his VPW debut from Scotland, while Millz Hendrix makes is debut from Queens. Both men started strong, with Mack relying more on power while Hendrix relied more on speed, but this was a high impact match
- With Smooth in his corner, Mack was able to control most of the match after almost losing early on. Hendrix was able to take out both Mack and Smooth while they were conferencing outside the ring, but Mack was able to survive
- Despite being in control, Mack was caught off guard and Hendrix finished him off for the win
The Even Stevens came out next and decided to hijack the show. Steve Somerset and Stephen Azure announced that they have not been given their rematch to the VPW Tag Team Championships, currently held by Shook Crew.
This lead the School of Cool to come out. Dr Cool Jay Klang and Pat Fitz Patrick told the Stevens to get to the back of the line. They were top challengers and at VPW 157: The Gold Rush Rumble in Bay Shore, the School of Cool would be challenging for the titles again.
The Even Stevens def. The School of Cool
- Fans were behind the School of Cool as they started off strong.
- The Even Stevens were able to pick up control and show why they were once champions
- PFP and Klang were able to regain control and pick up the win… almost… but the former tag champs were able to hit the Steven Flow and pick up the win
Jey Mesias w/ Delta House (Dante Drago and Nick Robles) def The King of R&B Stan Michael
- Stan Michael would make his VPW debut singing to the ring, while Delta House waited together in the ring
- Michael started off strong, overcoming the numbers game with blazing speed
- Mesias would regain control to keep Michael grounded, but the King of R&B kept coming back
- The numbers game would come into play once again. Mesias took advantage and stole the win.
GAUNTLET MATCH
Jack Tomlinson def. Zander Torres
- VPW Champion Jack Tomlinson said earlier in the night he would do anything to get his championship title back. This gauntlet match showed he was serious
- Zander Torres showed fight, but a Subscriber Stomp later and Torres was covered for the three and eliminated from the match.
Jack Tomlinson def. Adam Kirkland
- Kirkland showed to be more a tougher challenge for the champion, but even with Tomlinson on the defense, he was still fired up,
- Tomlinson suffered an arm injury during the match but kept going, wrapping Kirkland up in a submission for the elimination.
Mike Anthony def. Jack Tomlinson
- Mike Anthony came from the crowd and attacked Tomlinson before he could regain his bearings. A brutal assault kept the champion at bay.
- “Whatever it takes” kept running through Jack’s mind as he kept coming back, fighting back, and clawing his way to victory so he could reclaim his championship belt.
- A distraction from Adam Kirkland took the referee’s attention away. This lead Zander Torres, who was carrying a trash bag, to slip in from the opposite side to connect with a low blow. Mike Anthony then stole the win
After the match, all hell broke loose as Torres and Kirkland joined Mike Anthony in the ring to beat down Jack Tomlinson. Pulling the trash bag in the ring, Torres pulled out the VPW Championship and tossed it to Mike Anthony, who was about to use it as a weapon and attack Jack Tomlinson.
The School of Cool stormed the ring to even the numbers and make the save. Dr Cool and Pat Fitz Patrick cleared the ring of Kirkland and Torres, setting up Jack Tomlinson for a Subscriber Stomp to Mike Anthony, but Kirkland was able to pull Anthony out of the ring. Torres had gone to his car during the whole mess, drove up to the box office and honked the horn, giving Anthony and Kirkland a getaway to avoid a further beatdown, leaving the School of Cool and Jack Tomlinson in the ring to celebrate.
Despite losing the match, Tomlinson was reunited with the Victory Pro Wrestling championship title at the end of the day.
