The 13th Gold Rush Rumble event started with Da Big Boofa Dezmond Cole coming out to the ring, and he was not in a good mood. He immediately called out Leo Sparrow, telling him that he would be the champion if not for Sparrow, bringing up the missed count by the official at VPW’s Battle in Bay Shore. This draws out the debuting David Graham who tells Cole that he watched him a lot growing up, and it would be an honor for Cole to give him his first match. He showed a big sign of respect for Cole, and Cole accepted the challenge.
Da Big Boofa def. David Graham
In the early going of this match, Cole manhandles Graham, sending him crashing to the mat while using some of his fun antics to remain in control of Graham. After some more of a feeling-out process, Graham lands a huge dropkick on Cole for just a two-count. In doing this, Graham went on the offensive and took the fight to Cole.
Unfortunately for Graham, Cole would not stay down for long. He landed a huge springboard stunner on Graham, followed by his big leg drop for only a two-count. The two continued to go at it, but after some more great back-and-forth action, Cole would land his finishing move on Graham to put the match away and secure him the victory.
After the match, Cole shows Graham another sign of respect. Cole then grabs a microphone, talking about how it wasn’t easy when he first started and gives Graham some words of encouragement. Cole then turned his attention back to Leo Sparrow by calling out the VPW Champion once again. This led to Graham low-blowing Cole and establishing himself on where he stands in the VPW roster. This was a great debut for Graham.
The Rat Bastards def. Security Inc
The match starts quickly with the Rat Bastards and Security Inc. brawling all around the ring and ringside area. Security Inc. stands tall in the early going, as the Rat Bastard’s are forced to regroup on the outside. However, this quickly changed when Amity LaVey low-blows Malcolm Murray, and the fight between these two teams spilled over into the crowd. LaVey continues to get involved, which draws out Scarlett Meidan. What was supposed to be a two-on-two match turned into a six-person tag team match. The match officially begins with LaVey and Meidan as the legal competitors brawling in the ring.
LaVey tags in Adam Kirkland, while Meidan makes the tag to Murray. Murray challenges Kirkland to hit him, to which Kirkland obliges. Murray quickly says, “MY TURN B*TCH” and unloads on his adversary. Murray and Ronnie Moses go to work on Kirkland in their corner, separating one-half of the Rat Bastards from his partner. However, a distraction from Zander Torres allows Kirkland to land a huge clothesline on Moses and change the tides of this match. The Rat Bastards control a good portion of this match.
When Kirkland measures Moses in the corner for a spear, Moses moves out of the way, sending Kirkland shoulder-first into the ring post. Moses makes the hot tag on Murray, and Murray hits a massive slam on both Zander Torres and Adam Kirkland at the same time. Ultimately, after more great action, Torres steals a win by pinning Murray with his feet on the ropes.
After the match, all hell continues to break loose between these two teams who are redefining tag team wrestling in Victory Pro Wrestling. Security Inc. leaves both members of the Rat Bastard’s laying, with Moses quickly losing his cool on referee Steve Dumeng.
Leo Sparrow comes out to cut a promo before the match. He’s wearing a weight around his neck and heavier boots to prevent Bryce Donovan from chokeslamming him. Sparrow says it doesn’t matter whoever wins the match, because he’ll remain the champion. Donovan sneaks out to try and chokeslam Sparrow, but Sparrow gets away this time. Sparrow then joins the commentary booth.
THE GOLD RUSH RUMBLE
The winner of the Gold Rush Rumble earns the right to any sanctioned Victory Pro Wrestling championship of their choice. Originally billed as a 20-person Gold Rush Rumble, Amity LaVey had to withdraw from the contest due to an injury she sustained during the earlier match.
The match starts with Jorge La Bestia and Dee Vibe at one and two. After a bow between the two men, Vibe unloads some kicks on La Bestia and a big clothesline.
Vibe continues to beat down La Bestia in the corner while Percy Ryan comes out at number three. With Ryan being the fresh competitor, he takes down both La Bestia and Vibe, before Cosmic comes out at number four.
Ryan immediately challenges Cosmic, but Cosmic takes him down. Cosmic stands tall after taking the fight to all three competitors in the ring. Nick Robles is number five, and he brings the fight to everyone.
TK Wylde enters the match at number six. Wylde takes out both Robles and Ryan before turning his attention to La Bestia at the corner.
At number seven, we see David Graham enter his first Gold Rush Rumble. Graham immediately targets Vibe and he and Percy Ryan team up.
Scarlett Meidan enters the ring at number eight and the ring is beginning to fill up. She targets Ryan, but unfortunately for her, Ryan and Graham team up to eliminate her and La Bestia.
At number nine, Jack Tomlinson enters the rumble next. He takes down everyone, teaming up with fellow Delta House member, Nick Robles. Graham eliminates Vibe, while Cosmic eliminates Percy Ryan.
Pedro Dones enters the ring at number 10, making his return to VPW. Dones takes out everyone, eliminating Graham in the process.
At number 11, Alvin enters the fray and immediately has a stare-down with Dones, before taking him down. Alvin then turns his attention to Cosmic who brings the fight to the big man.
At number 12, Eddie the Sweeper enters the match, and he immediately saves Cosmic from Alvin who’s about to hit her with a big chokeslam. Sweeper hits his finisher on Tomlinson, Nick Robles, and TK Wylde.
Nahir Robles makes her return to VPW at number 13, accompanied by Silk E. Smooth. She and Nick Robles hit each other with a double clothesline, taking each other down to the mat.
At number 14, Franco Costanzo enters the fray. Costanzo immediately goes one-on-one with Alvin, which doesn’t end well for Costanzo.
At number 15, Diego El Trabajador enters the rumble, and he immediately helps out his “Working Class” teammate, The Sweeper. They eliminate Costanzo before Alvin eliminates both Diego and The Sweeper.
At number 16, Jake Lang enters the match. He hits a massive spear on Tomlinson, Alvin, and Nick Robles. Dones eliminates TK Wylde, while Nahir Robles and Cosmic team up to eliminate Dones.
Ken Powers enters the fray at number 17. Everyone left in the match tries to get the jump on Powers, but unfortunately for them, it doesn’t end well as Powers explodes and everyone goes flying off of him. Powers gets Alvin on his shoulders and does a helicopter spin. Nahir Robles and Cosmic brawl on the apron, with both of them eliminating each other after a great showing in this match. VPW legend, Jay Delta, enters the ring at number 18. Delta eliminates Powers and then squares off with Nick Robles.
JJ Doze enters the ring as the final entrant. He eliminates Delta, and Nick Robles almost immediately. He sends Tomlinson crashing through the middle rope, with the crowd thinking Tomlinson just got eliminated.
Alvin eliminates Jake Lang, with Alvin and JJ Doze seemingly the final two competitors left in this match. Alvin hits a massive spinebuster on Doze but unfortunately hurts himself in the process. .
This leads to Tomlinson sneaking back into the ring and eliminating Doze, winning the 2024 Gold Rush Rumble. After the match, Dante Drago and Nick Robles came out to the ring to celebrate with their Delta House counterpart.
VPW NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Champion Dante Drago def. Evil Kip
The match kicked off with a collar elbow tie up which led to Evil Kip rolling to the outside to regroup. When Kip re-enters the ring, he tries to remove the turnbuckle pad, which Drago immediately calls out. Drago does the same thing, with Kip now calling it out before the referee gets everything under control. Drago throws a pad at Kip and gains a little control in the early going of this match.
Drago attempts a superplex from the top rope on Evil Kip, but Kip counters by biting Drago’s head, and slamming it against the top turnbuckle. Evil Kip beats up Drago, targeting his neck in the process. However, Drago doesn’t stay down for long as he lands a huge spinning lariat on Evil Kip and pins him for just a two-count.
Drago follows this up by going high-risk for a huge elbow drop on Kip. Drago attempts a pin again, but still just gets a two-count. Nick Robles makes his presence felt and accidentally distracts Drago, which leads to a big double knee move from Kip off the top rope. Thankfully for Robles, this was only a two-count. Evil Kip clocks Robles with the belt over his head.
Drago tries to go into his bag of tricks and pretends that he was hit with the belt. When the referee’s back was turned, Tomlinson accidentally hits Drago with the paddle. Evil Kip grabs the paddle and takes out Robles again with it. He tries to use it on Drago but ends up hitting himself with it as it bounces off the ropes. This leads to Drago putting Evil Kip away once and for all.
VPW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
The Unforgiven Salem def. Champion The Gift of Gab Gabby Ortiz
NEW CHAMPION
The match starts with Ortiz hiding behind the ropes. The two engage in some chain wrestling, with Salem attempting a couple of quick pinfalls for only a two count in each attempt.
Salem locks in a submission hold using the ropes but is forced to break before the count of five. Just as it looked like Salem had Ortiz where she wanted her, Ortiz turned the match in her favor and landed a big hip block on Salem who was seated in the corner.
Ortiz has some fun at Salem’s expense while continuing to beat down her challenger. However, Salem turned the match around rather quickly, locked in a submission hold, and forced Ortiz to tap out, crowning herself as the new Victory Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship.
VPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Champion Cain Industries (with Silk E Smooth) def the Even Stevens
Steve Somerset and Anthony Gangone kick off the match for their respective teams. Somerset and Stephen Azure landed a double-team takedown on Gangone in the early going of this match.
However, Adam Cain quickly tags in, and Azure attempts to bring the fight to the big man. This doesn’t last as the tag team champions turn the match in their favor and put Azure in a very bad spot that he does not want to be in.
Cain and Gangone exchange quick tags while continuing to beat down Azure. Azure tries to fight back, to no avail. Gangone lands a big move on Azure and attempts a pin, which gets broken up by Somerset.
Azure gathers the wherewithal to throw Gangone out of the ring and buy himself some time to regroup. Azure finally lands a hot tag on Somerset who comes in hot, bringing the fight to both Gangone and Cain. However, thanks to a distraction by Smooth, Cain hits Somerset with another big move for just a two-count.
Ultimately after more great back-and-forth action, the Even Stevens called for Steven Flow. However, Smooth enters the ring and eats the finisher instead. This allows Gangone to land his finishing hold on the face of Somerset, forcing his shoulders to the mat for the three-count.
VICTORY PRO WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Champion Leo Sparrow def. Bryce Donovan
This match starts quickly, with Donovan unloading rights to the face of the VPW Champion. In the early going of this match, Donovan hits his big Shook elbow drop on Sparrow for just a two-count. Sparrow tries to change the momentum by kneeing Donovan, forcing Donovan’s head into the middle turnbuckle, and calling for a chokeslam.
However, Sparrow can’t get Donovan up, and Donovan takes down Sparrow with a flurry of clotheslines. Donovan lands a fallaway slam on Sparrow, sending Sparrow to the outside. Sparrow regroups but allows himself to be counted out with Donovan seemingly winning the match, but not the title. Commissioner Fulton makes his way out and restarts the contest, now with no rules.
The crowd went nuts as Donovan beat up Sparrow all over Pro Game Athletics arena. When the match finally spilled back over to ringside, Donovan attempts to send Sparrow headfirst into the ring post, but Sparrow counters, sending the much bigger opponent shoulder-first into the post.
In doing so, Sparrow regained control of the match. Sparrow sends Donovan face-first into a chair positioned in the corner and continues to beat him down. Sparrow positions two chairs in the ring and attempts to superplex Donovan through them.
Donovan counters and sends Sparrow crashing and burning with a powerbomb through the two chairs that Sparrow set up. Donovan attempts a pin but just gets a two-count. Donovan attempts a chokeslam, but Sparrow counters with a sleeper hold, which looks to put Donovan down and out. Donovan fights out of it but is met with a chair to the gut by Sparrow. Sparrow lands a DDT on Donovan through the chair for just a two-count.
Sparrow and Donovan have a tug-of-war with a chair. Sparrow wins this tug-of-war but accidentally knocks out referee Steve Dumeng with the chair. Donovan hits a massive chokeslam on Sparrow onto a chair in the ring. He pins Sparrow for at least a ten count, but there was no referee to count it.
Percy Ryan and David Graham rush the ring to help Sparrow. Donovan, however, fights them off and lands a big chokeslam on Graham. This allows Sparrow to knock Donovan out with the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship and pins him for the three-count and to retain his title.
After the match, all three men – Sparrow, Graham, and Ryan – continue to attack Donovan. This leads to Da Big Boofa Dezmond Cole making the save and sending them all packing.
The event ends with Dezmond Cole calling out Leo Sparrow for VPW’s October event – Hallowed Ground.
