Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001.
Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day and every year, the national September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City holds a commemoration ceremony to remind everyone of those two words, never forget.
Watching those Towers collapse, hearing the spirits and Souls of my friends and colleagues fade into nothing knowing they’ve lost family, friends, and a staple of our identity not just as New Yorkers but as Americans, it hurt me.
In the beginning, we would share our stories about where we were, what are emotions were like, and of course the energy of those we’ve lost to keep it all alive. It was surreal at the moment, knowing the world changed at the blink of an eye.
Earlier this year we unveiled a brand new New York state championship. The main plate features the map of the Empire State, prominent in the state color, with our logo overseeing it on top. One of the side plates features the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of our freedom and a symbol of hope.
The other side plate features the Twin Towers. These are closer to the front plates to highlight the prominence of how important this is to remember these attacks. The Twin Towers have always been represented in each one of our New York State championship title belts.
Today is bigger than Victory Pro Wrestling as we look back in memoriam, to pay our respects and the breathe more life in those two words once again, never forget.
