The mere thought of being a champion gets his juices pumping. Manhattan’s son Jorge Santi has had several chances to be champion but never has he been able to grab on that brass ring.
Santi is one of many came out from the VPW locker room when Kevin Tibbs opened the challenge to anyone on the roster for the New York State championship.
The odds are clearly against the champion to retain in a battle royal, but that’s what Kevin Tibbs will do when Victory Pro Wrestling returns to Deer Park for the 2014 Gold Rush Rumble.
In the gauntlet style battle royal, two opponents start, with new opponents coming in one after the other every 90 seconds until all wrestlers are in the ring. To be eliminated, the competitor must be thrown over the top rope and both feet must touch the floor.
The final four competitors will advance to the fatal four way elimination match, and the winner, traditionally, gets to choose what championship they want. This year, Kevin Tibbs has put the New York State championship on the line in an unheard of title defense to prove he is the best New York State champion and the greatest VPW wrester of all time.
But with the like of the hungry Jorge Santi, that may be a feat he is unable to accomplish.
