The New York State Championship, and those that have held it, have been the foundation of Victory Pro Wrestling since it’s introduction. VsK, Kevin Fulton, Kyler Khan (as Kai Katana), EJ Risk, Kevin Tibbs, Fighter Cat, Jay Delta, and Steve Gibki define the backbone of the company, and they have all held the VPW New York State Championship.
In 2009, the championship was introduced at the Gold Rush Rumble, and the winner was crowned the first ever New York State Champion. It was defended in a best two-of-three falls challenge, several triple threat elimination matches, inside a steel cage, in two blindfold matches, a Long Island Street Fight, a five way elimination match, in a career vs championship match, and a No Rules Street Fight. The championship was also defended at the Gold Rush Rumble with winner take all rules.
The problem is right now, there are two men that claim the right to be Victory Pro Wrestling New York State champion. Steve Gibki, who defeated Jay Delta for the New York State championship, and Jay Delta, who – thanks to Commissioner Kevin Fulton – claims the right to the original blue belt New York State championship.
At Monster Mash in Centereach October 27, only one will walk out as New York State Champion, as for the second time ever, the New York State Championship will be defended in a ladder match. Both belts will hang above the ring, and the winner will be the wrestler that can unhook and claim both titles.
There will be no more questions. No more doubts. No more confusion. After Monster Mash, either Steve Gibki will be the New York State Champion, or Jay Delta will be the New York State Champion.
