At VPW’s Power Grab, Dominick Denaro became the top contender to the New York State Championship, but that match won’t happen until July.
This did not sit well for the New York State Champion Dezmond Cole, who issued a challenge to anyone, anywhere, to meet him at VPW’s Under Pressure, Saturday June 11, in St James.
With dozens of competitors chiming in online, sending DMs and emails, and calling VPW Management, one stood over all: Tony Vincita.
VPW’s Blood Sweat and 8 years is when Vincita made his debut. The main event featured The Church of Tibbs, Mister Tibbs and Dorian Graves, to meet VSK and the Phenomenal AJ Styles, but the show was also remembered as the New Jersey Invasion when the Down Boyz, Vincita and his cousin Steve Gibki, assaulted then VPW Tag Team Champions Da Hou$e Party.
It was very clear the Down Boyz wanted gold and eventually they would claim the VPW Tag Team Championships. They would hold the titles twice for a combined 862 days, but it would be Gibki that would add to his legacy by holding the New York State Championship. Gibki left his cousin behind as he focused on his singles career, with Vincita returning once in the last five years.
But he did not sit back doing nothing. Vincita trained, dominated the New Jersey circuit, and was featured on multiple occasions on AEW Dynamite and AEW Dark. Vincita went to train with QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes at the Nightmare Factory in Atlanta, and now… eight years after he invaded VPW the first time… Vincita returns with a thirst for championship gold.
