When Valentina Vasquez debuted in Victory Pro Wrestling last year, she did so in a match against then-champion Karen Bam Bam. She did not succeed in becoming the VPW Women’s champion at the 2021 Gold Rush Rumble, but she did impress the championship committee, who granted her an opportunity to challenge Karen once again at Devastation in December.
The match ended dubiously, with Anastasia MorningStar returning to remind Karen Bam Bam she was not done with her yet, and Valentina scoring a win to capture the title.
Since then, Valentina has been on a roll. Defeating Clara Carreras, Little Mean Kathleen, and Anastasia, the champion has been taking care of business.
Gabby Ortiz was scheduled to compete in VPW’s Under Pressure but had to postpone her debut. She was to face Megan Mason, who demanded a fight. Megan was given a fight with the Assistant to the VPW Commissioner James Sullivan, but her thirst for gold has not been quenched.
It was originally announced that both Gabby and Megan would challenge Valentina for the VPW Women’s Championship at Homecoming Volume 2, but Valentina took to social media to announce that maybe to be fair, Gabby would face Megan and the winner would face Valentina at a later date.
Gabby Ortiz has an incredible pedigree. Performing for Ring of Honor and more recently All Elite Wrestling, Gabby is a graduate of the world famous Monster Factory and is a former Monster Factory Girl’s Champion. She has also picked up several championships up and down the Garden State, showing her dominance in New Jersey.
Megan Mason is no slouch herself. In addition to fighting and clawing her way up the ladder in Victory Pro Wrestling, she has performed in New Jersey as well with darker intents. At CFU, she had the chance to meet former Impact Wrestling star Lady Frost.
This will not be the first time they’ve met in the ring, but it will be the first time they’ve faced in two years. With the winner getting the right to challenge Valentina Vasquez for the VPW Women’s championship, this will surely be a match to keep an eye out for.
